The Conecuh Station Open Shooting Dog Classic began on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Conecuh Station Plantation in Union Springs, Alabama. With each passing year, the hospitality shown by Becky & Tony Gibson only increases as does our gratitude for their hosting of multiple trials on their beautiful plantation grounds. Thank you to John Mote and the entire Conecuh Station crew for managing the snappy pines.

On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, the Hornets celebrated Senior Night with a matchup with Loveless Academic Magnet Program High School. Before the competition Seniors: Trevonne Palmer, Zaccheus Wilburn and Ashton Williams were recognized and cheered by the home crowd. In honor of the special occasion all seniors were in the starting lineup at the start of tip-off.

The Union Springs Police Department notified Central Alabama CrimeStoppers and advised they have located and taken fugitive Jessie Haynes III, 23, into custody.
Haynes was originally wanted for attempted murder and multiple violent felony charges as a result of a January 10, 2024, shooting that occurred in the 400 block of Conecuh Avenue East in Union Springs, Alabama.
Louis Cooper Rutland was a lifetime resident of Bullock County, Alabama, having been born the fourth child of Will David and Rose Rutland of Mitchell Station, Alabama. He attended school in Union Springs and graduated from Union Springs High School in 1961. He attended and graduated from Auburn University in 1963; served with the US Navy and then attained his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Alabama in 1969.
The Union Springs Elementary Girl Scouts enjoyed a visit from AmeriFirst Bank’s Branch Manager, Ms. Dominique Blue (right), who taught the girls the value of being financially literate and even gifted them with piggy banks to begin saving money. Pinky is this week’s Pet of the Week. Pinky has been at the shelter for almost a year now. She gets along great with other dogs and children. She loves to run and play. Pinky is up to date on all of her shots, including her rabies vaccination and is on flea and heartworm prevention. Pinky would make a great addition to anyone’s family.
High school senior girls from across Alabama joined together on January 14 in Montgomery for the Distinguished Young Women of Alabama program held at Frazer United Methodist Church. Participants competed for college scholarships and the opportunity to represent the state as the Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama for 2024.

The long time restaurant known as the Hilltop Grill, owned by Rebecah “Beck” Johnson, has recently been sold. Beck has managed restaurants for a number of years. She owned and managed “The Grill” for eleven years before selling it, due to health issues. Prior to Beck owning the grill, it was owned and operated by Mrs. Wylene Rhodes. In addition to Mrs. Rhodes, Beck is the hardest working woman I have known.
