Bullock County Humane Society Pet of the Week

Diamond is the highlight pet of the week! This spunky girl has been at the shelter far too long, over 2 years to be exact! As the longest resident, she enjoys tummy rubs, treats, walking on the leash, learning new commands, and playing with anyone who will play with her, including other dogs. Diamond has been spayed, is heartworm negative, and up to date on all of her shots including rabies.

Plum Curculio is the cause of bad fruit

By Jeffery Moore

During my experience, I encountered the pleasure of assisting homeowners with the control of Plum Curculio (PC).  Plum curculio is a small snout beetle, sometimes known as a weevil. The PC causes problems with fruit trees such as apples, peaches, plums, and cherries.  With prevention, researchers have stated that if plum curculio is not controlled at an early stage, 85% of the fruit will be destroyed at harvest time. The adult and the larvae have chewing mouthparts which can cause damage to fruits.

In December, Senator Billy Beasley and Representative Berry Forte joined the Mid-South RC&D in celebrating several successful projects in Bullock County totaling just over $101,000. Among the grantees was the Bullock County Commission, which acquired a rescue UTV to help safeguard the well-being of citizens enjoying activities in the outdoors and to aid in the recovery of those lost. Bullock County E-911 purchased a new generator to provide emergency back-up for 911 services in the event of power failure.

Bullock County Humane Society Pet of the Week

Meet “Georgi,” our featured kitty of the week! Her eyes are the most amazing shade of amber. Not many kitties have this vibrant eye coloring. Georgi came to the shelter about six months ago as a “wild kitty” but she has since been socialized. Georgi loves her kitty companions and human caretakers. She has been spayed, has current rabies, and has been vaccinated. While Georgi would be a good indoor/outdoor kitty, she’d also be just as happy to be an exclusive house cat, granted there’s a soft pillow by her window to watch the birds.
