Fire Alert issued for Alabama

The Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) has issued a statewide Fire Alert effective immediately. While under a Fire Alert, permits for outdoor burning will be restricted. Anyone who burns a field, grassland, or woodland without a burn permit may be subject to prosecution for committing a Class B misdemeanor.

Y.C. Nance Bullock County Achievers Awards celebrates excellence and community commitment

The 18th Annual Y. C. Nance Bullock County Achievers Awards Banquet Program, a hallmark event recognizing outstanding achievements and community service, took place on September 17, 2023 at South Highland Middle School in Union Springs, Alabama. The afternoon was a celebration of individuals and organizations committed to making a positive impact within the community.

The Red Door Theatre celebrates 20 years

The Red Door Theatre celebrated 20 Years on September 21, 2023, at Dream Field Farms. Nearly three hundred guests were treated to a delicious array of food and a show by Sean Dietrich, Sean of the South.  Guests began arriving at the Farm before 5:30 p.m., anxious for the evening to begin. They were greeted by a beautiful fall farm setting decorated with pumpkins and ferns. A large tent with candlelit tables also housed the food displayed beautifully by Chef Jackson Smith, Cathy Ellis, and the staff at Dream Field Farms.  The food was served from 6:00 P.m.

Look who will be available soon, Romeo! This stunning and sweet boy will be available for adoption in the middle of October 2023. If you are looking for an awesome snuggler, a house kitty, with maybe a little supervised outside playtime then Romeo might just be the one for your family. He has an unusual coloring, more of a buff tan than a true orange and is what we call mid-length fur as he has a bushy tail and slightly thicker coat than a domestic short hair.

Hank Williams remembered on his 100th birthday in Union Springs

Hiram “Hank” Williams was born 100 years ago on September 17, 1923 in the small rural community of Mount Olive, Alabama. At a young age he learned to sing in a little church in the community. He was raised in Georgiana from 1930-1934 where his boyhood home is still located, is preserved and serves as a museum. Williams lived in Greenville, Alabama from 1934-1937 and then moved to Montgomery where he met his mentor, Rufus “Tee-Tot” Payne and his career took off from there.

Mayor Clark held Town Meeting

Union Springs Mayor Roderick Clark held a Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at the Richard B. Stone Building on Highway 82 East. Sixteen people attended the meeting, none of which included the City Council Board Members. Those in attendance voiced their concerns about several different subjects. The meeting started promptly at 6 p.m.

Bullock County Black Belt Artist Stephanie Wingard wins second place in competition

Black Belt Artist, Stephanie Wingard showcased her “Crater Waves” piece in the  2023 Wetumpka Impact Crater Art Competition on September 17, 2023 where she won second place. Wingard, a Bullock County Art Guild member, was part of the twenty-five paintings that made the final cut to move on to the juried phase.

Family looking for information following the murder of Randy Thorne

Randy Thorne, 62, fell victim to a heinous murder somewhere in the late hours of Sunday, September 10 or the early hours of Monday, September 11, 2023, when he reportedly succumbed to a shotgun wound while sleeping in his bed in Banks, Alabama.
