BC School Board Candidate charged with assaulting UAB student

On Thursday, February 22, 2024, the Union Springs Herald received an anonymous tip from an outside source concerning an assault made on a UAB student by a Bullock County Board of Education candidate, LeShandra Johnson, who is currently running for Place 2 in the March 5th election.

Brooks participates in lineman rodeo

Sam Brooks from Still Crossroads in Bullock County, Alabama, just finished participating in The Florida Lineman Rodeo held on February 23-24, 2024. The rodeo was held in Jacksonville, Florida. This lineman competition brings electric lineworkers from all over the State of Florida together to demonstrate their skill and knowledge in the craft of line work. Brooks works with Talquin Electric in Florida.

Model Garden Club decorate window for the Annual Bird Dog Field Trials

The Model Garden Club decorated one of the windows of Taylormade Boutique to welcome participants to the Annual Bird Dog Field Trials.  The window displays a scaled down version of the original barn at Sedgefield.  The replica is hand made of cardboard paper and popsicle sticks.  In the front parking lot there is a miniature truck, trailer, and horse  representing the many riders that come from across the country to ride in the trials.  Tiny bales of hay with a cat and mouse are located near the main barn entrance and a second horse is co

Sip-N-Paint Party was a success

The City Sophisticate Boutique in downtown Union Springs, was transformed, almost magically, into an art studio for the Sip-N-Paint Party that was held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 2 until 4 p.m. The event had enough places for eleven guests and the hostess, Nazareth Reynolds Thornton, owner of City Sophisticate Boutique, to comfortably paint and sip for the two hour event.

Black History Month Spotlight - Remembering Nat King Cole

In Montgomery, AL there is a group of people that keep Nat King Cole’s memory alive every day. The Nat King Cole Society is dear to one of our Bullock County Commissioners' hearts. Commissioner John McGowan is the President of the Society and has helped keep his memory and legacy alive and thriving, along with several other Bullock County members. “We celebrate Nat King Cole this Black History Month and wish to enlighten all generations with his soulful music,” Commented McGowan

Bullock County Humane Society Pet of the Week

This petite yet stunning girl is Townie! Townie has just been spayed, has her rabies and vaccinations and is now ready for her forever home. She’s hoping to find a house with a small family and maybe another kitty friend or a small gentle dog. She’s a calm and loving girl and would make a purrrrfect kitty companion.

Model Garden Club held February meeting

The Model Garden Club met at the lovely home of Bebe Wilkerson in Fitzpatrick on February 20th.  The hostesses were Bebe, Leanne Long and Bonnie Bailey.  After the business meeting, delicious refreshments were served.  Lastly, the program was tips on fresh flower arrangements.  Each member brought cut flowers along with their flower vase.  All of the flowers were put collectively in containers so each member could make their arrangement.  As you can see from the photo, the arrangements were beautiful.  The members had a fun time making their arr
