Bullock County Voters League celebrated their 50th Anniversary at their Annual Banquet

Bullock County Voters League celebrated their 50th Anniversary at the 2024 Annual Banquet, held on the evening of Sunday, February 25, 2024. The event was held in the auditorium of the South Highlands Middle School and had decorations of white and gold. The auditorium was full with many Union Springs and Bullock County Officials. With the elections right around the corner, several candidates were present as well.

Huffman receives Award

Coach Edward Huffman was awarded the Outstanding and Prestigious Achievement Award as “The Winningest Coach” in Bullock County Basketball History on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at the 50th Annual Bullock County Voters League Banquet. President Essie B. Thomas presented Coach Huffman with the award who shared the award with his doting wife.

The Bullock County Cattlemen’s Association held Annual Steak Dinner

The Bullock County Cattlemen’s Association held their Annual Steak Dinner on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at the Greenway Sportsman Club in Union Springs at 6:30 p.m. Alabama Cattlemen, women and families from all parts of Bullock County attended this year's dinner which consisted of a perfectly grilled New York Strip Steak, spinach salad, potato casserole, a dinner roll, pound cake for dessert, and sweet-tea, water, and lemonade for beverages.

Bullock County Humane Society Pet of the Week

Meet our girl Friday! A friendly young pup with a lot of love to give, Friday was brought into the shelter as a stray in December and was completely covered in demodectic mange. It’s been three months and she looks amazing! She is up to date on all of her vaccines including rabies and is on flea prevention. She is unfortunately heartworm positive and is on a preventative now.

Cruising to Clothe a Child Charity Event set for Saturday, March 9

Cruising to Clothe a Child Charity Car/Truck Event is sponsored by the Wild Hoggs Classic Car Club and benefits local foster children in Bullock County annually. The event is scheduled for Saturday 03/09/2024, with vehicle line up beginning at 9 a.m. at the Richard Stone Armory Complex located at 21578 HWY 82 East, Union Springs. Registration is $25 and includes lunch.

Women on Mission donate quilt for 10th Annual Cruising to Clothe a Child Charity

The Women on Mission (WOM ) of the First Baptist Church of Union Springs is proud to donate  this quilt for the upcoming “Clothe A Child Event” on March 9th, 2024. We hope you will go to  the silent auction that day and support this effort to benefit local foster children.

Foster Thanks Anthony Daniels

Jayla Foster, an 18 year old Senior at Bullock County High School, who will graduate with the Class of 2024, met Alabama Representative Anthony Daniels, who is a candidate for the Second Congressional District, at the 50th Annual Voters League Banquet on February 25, 2024, where she gave the Recognition of Guests and was able to thank him in person for his many achievements with the community of Bullock County and the state of Alabama.

“The Dictionary Project” sponsored by Judge James Tatum

Every year, Judge James Tatum sponsors “The Dictionary Project” in donating a dictionary to every 3rd Grader at the Union Springs Elementary School. The students are always very excited to receive and use their dictionary! (USES photo)

Co-winners crowned in ALBBAA Big Buck Photo Contest

The Alabama Black Belt Adventures 12th annual Big Buck Photo Contest received dozens of entries and thousands of online votes.

In the end, two photos – one of a smiling 7-year-old girl after harvesting her first buck and a Pintlala man who harvested a 13-point velvet buck – stood above the rest. The two photos were separated by only four votes, so Olivia Faulkner and Chad Stinson have been declared co-winners of this year’s contest.
