Car hits tree at Union Springs Telephone Company

On the evening of Thursday, February 8, 2024 at approximately 4:52 p.m. a single vehicle over-corrected and crashed into a tree directly in front of the Union Springs Telephone Company.

Union Springs Police Department responded quickly to the call as well as Haynes Ambulance, however the driver refused medical treatment, the driver was presumed to be in good health, although a little shaken up.

Bullock County Humane Society opens their new “Catio”

Bullock County Humane Society board member, Megan Foose, has created a sanctuary for the kitties at the shelter in the form of what she calls a “Catio.” Foose’s “Labor of Love” started just before Christmas and was completed and opened on January 30, 2024. The “Catio” is for any shelter cat who has been spayed or neutered, is up to date on all of their vaccines, and has received their rabies vaccination.

Heartbreaking loss to end Hornets’ season

On February 11, 2024, the Hornets had a home sub-regional round game versus  the Escambia County Blue Devils. The Hornets were looking to build momentum from the area  championship game versus  Booker T. Washington. The Blue Devils were coming off a huge lost  against the Jackson High School Aggies in the Area 4 02 Championship (58-40).

Hornets’ road to becoming Area Champions

On February 8, 2024, the Hornets took on their Highway 29 rivals Booker T. Washington (Tuskegee) for the 4A Area 4 Championship on their homecourt. To get to the championship, Bullock County came up with a convincing win over the Montgomery Catholic Knights 47-39 at  BTW. Against the Knights Anthony Simpson scored 17 points and Trevone Palmer put up 13 points, 8 assists, and 11 rebounds. BTW completely dominated the Tigers of LAMP (73-34) to get to the finals.

Bullock County Humane Society Pet of the Week

Danja is our featured kitty of the week! Danja is a year and a half old, has been spayed and up to date on shots and rabies. She is one of three sisters and while she is a lovely brown tabby, her sisters Deborah and Dahlia are tortoiseshell and black. If you’re looking for a single kitty, or maybe a group of three, these girls are extremely affectionate and will come find you for their pets and rubs.

Chunnenuggee Garden Club Members Decorated Window

The window of the Union Springs Pharmacy in downtown Union Springs has been decorated by the Chunnenuggee Garden Club to welcome folks to the annual Bird Dog Field Trials.  It is the annual custom for the club to decorate this window as part of the project of the local Tourism Council to have windows decorated downtown for the big annual event of the Field Trials.

Chunnenuggee Garden Club Met in Troy

Debbie Rotton was the gracious hostess for the meeting of the Chunnenuggee Garden Club on February 8, 2024.  Members met at Debbie's home in Troy, AL where she and her husband recently moved from Bullock County. Refreshments of sandwiches and cake were served with napkins of a Valentine theme and traditional candy kisses.
