Bullock County Freedom School holds “Stop The Violence” program for grande finale

Bullock County Freedom School celebrated their Grande Finale with a “STOP THE VIOLENCE!” rally and program. The rally was held on Wednesday, July 19 and the program was held on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at the Bullock County Career Tech Auditorium, which also doubled as their classrooms for the summer.

Former Ole Miss and BC native in career ending accident

Ka’Darian (KD) Hill, former Ole Miss Rebel and Bullock County native, was involved in a career-ending accident on Saturday, July 26, 2023 when the vehicle he was traveling in with his brother veered off the road and struck a tree on Interstate 65 in Cullman, Alabama. According to a facebook post made by Hill himself, his leg was amputated at the scene of the crash after having been pinned by the motor for over five hours.

Bullock County Commission approves SSUT allocation; citizens voice concerns

The Bullock County Commission met Tuesday, July 25 for its regular session. During the meeting, the commission discussed topics including the allocation of discretionary funds for each commissioner to apply in their district, renovations of the former OCAP building, and posting new personnel positions for the solid waste department. Also, citizens who attended the meeting were allowed to voice concerns they have.

Courthouse Historic District has a new sign

The replacement County Courthouse  Historical Marker  Sign was installed on Monday July 24, by the County Engineering Department.  In July 2022 when the GoPro Wildlife Removal Company was removing the bats from the County Courthouse their boom operator in addition to bending the old flag pole managed to break off the original Historical Marker sign.

Bullock County SummerFest and Back2School Fun Day successful

Unique Achievers in collaboration with Christian Leaders of USA, Inc. and Southern Rural Black Women’s Initiative (SRBWI) held a Bullock County SummerFest and Back2School Fun Day on Sunday, July 30, 2023 in the Aberfoil Community of Bullock County, Alabama. This event created a positive atmosphere and educational experience for children and adults.

As a kid growing up I loved the Dallas Cowboys. In the 70’s and 80’s Tom Landry led a team of stars - Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett, Drew Pearson and many more. Most of these guys were childhood heroes to me. While playing youth football many of us believed that having a pair of Converse “TD” All-Star cleats (like Dorsett wore) would make you a great runner and player.
